This has taken longer then I wanted to share this with you but I had to make sure I was in the right head space and strong enough to be able to address this publicly.

You might have noticed this message when trying to shop on our website lately:

I want to take a moment to update everyone on what is going on around here. As you know this last year since Izaac’s entrance has been less than graceful for us. It has created a decline in my production and overall focus and for that I would like to publicly apologize to anyone that may have suffered the side effects of that in ways of delayed orders &  lack of customer service.

I did my best to keep up with it all and while I’d like to believe me having Aspergers has disconnected me enough from the ways it would affect most people I am realizing Izaac’s challenges have had much more of an impact then I have previously admitted to myself.  In short, the last year has been a MEGA distraction for me and Bully Mart. There was less of an IN-THE-MOMENT effect and it’s more of a lingering one, an aftershock.

Why I Closed Shop

April 3rd is typically nothing less of a celebration around because it is our eldest son Caleb’s Birthday. He turned 11 this year. This year that day was also coupled with a bit of unnerving news about youngest Son Izaac. Izaac had his regular cardiologist appointment that day and I honestly thought nothing of it because all of his previous ones went flawlessly. So much so it was said you would not even know he had heart surgery if you did not see his big scar down his chest.

Well this visit didn’t go as flawless and I think that is where I had a complete breakdown. I may have lashed out and said some ignorant things that week to people about being ungrateful and negative. I know they were coming from my own place of fear and pain. I felt so foolish and hurt by the news of Izaac’s appointment not going as I assumed it would. I had no reason to think otherwise because in my mind he is perfect and normal like the rest of our children. There is nothing wrong with him…in my mind.

So this was like a BITCH SLAP of reality juice and made me sick to my stomach to hear my precious baby boy’s heart has changed since his last check up and we did not get promoted to annual visits like I had hoped. His arteries were not the size they should be and there was something a little off. It was my breaking point that made me realize the gravity of the situation.

I had to shut down shop and get everything that has been ordered shipped and had to really focus on our Revive Bully Mart indiegogo campaign to get at least the financial burden Bully Mart has been facing this last year off our plate.

Which brings me to our request.

Izaac’s Status

We are not a family that gives up nor speaks negative over ourselves so we will not say things that are not positive about his situation because I REFUSE TO SPEAK THEM INTO EXISTENCE. I will say that I do not want anyone to worry but will gladly accept your prayers, positive energy and thoughts of support and gratefulness for our son’s healing. He is a strong little boy and has a positive set of parents behind him. He is being monitored closely by his doctors and should they need to go back into his little chest again for any reason we KNOW we have the BEST team on his side.

NOW…THE SORT OF SOB STORY, BUT MORE LIKE THE CURRENT STATUS :)

Opening up because I cannot keep it bottled in any longer….We, as you might have noticed, have a lot of dog collar sales going on right now in part to celebrate Sir Izaac’s miraculous birth, fight for life  and outstanding strength during recovery and another because…well because we are still paying his medical expenses from a year ago and we have a ton of regularly occurring expenses around here. I am not one to get all emotional or put the sob story on but this last year has been financially difficult to say the least as I am sure anyone that has ever had an unexpected medical emergency arise can certainly understand.

My pride (which is a TERRIBLE character flaw of mine) got in the way of starting a fundraiser for him while we were in the hospital because I felt like it was our responsibility alone since he is our child and had no right to reach out and ask for monetary help. I have spent the last year regretting that decision and learning my lesson repeatedly for not reaching out then and accepting the assistance from our online network. Ya see it has only been a recent revelation as to what exactly it is I am supposed to be learning from all of this and why it is my pride tends to get in the way so very much when folks reach out to help…well besides the fact I am an EXTREMELY private person. It was so eloquently put by my Husband Michael to a friend of ours when our truck broke down now over a month ago.

He explained to her that he knew accepting her help was extremely difficult for me because I (we) had been so used to doing everything on our own my entire life and our entire marriage.  Aspergers alone has been an extremely challenging daily adventure to overcome an immense lack of certain social skills but couple that with a solitary upbringing and learning to fend for yourself…well it has proved to be it’s own unique hybrid set of challenges of it’s own.

So yes this last year thew us for one hell of a loopty loo roller coaster ride and the hospital stay alone put us out of commission work wise which as some of you know when you are self employed there is not paid vacation time. When you do not run your business your bank account only goes one way and that is down. Thus started the massive snow ball effect.

Here comes the difficult part where my humility  must kick in. (deep breath) Well as it currently stands a year later it pains me to say we are barely treading water. Often times we are finding that there are continuous waves that seem minor are more than strong enough to push use under to where it feels like we are beginning to slowly drown. I am not one to spend time talking about the problems but instead try to focus on the solutions and that is what is giving me much grief right now. How to share and reach out w/out sounding weak, needy and depressing. While I can do my best I do realize I am only human and there are times where I question my own ethics and ideologies.

Don’t get me wrong I am extremely grateful even in this time. While at times it seems difficult to bear the financial burdens the fact remains that our son is ALIVE and thriving & our other children are healthy and strong. We were able to finally move onto acreage as we have been dreaming about and working so hard for with our family and dogs for the last 10 years so there are no complaints there either. I am EXTREMELY grateful for shit not hitting the fan until we finally closed on our property. That was a long expensive process to get settled and while we lost a ton of money in our previous home and trying to find this one this dream has been realized.

The next phase of our dream is improving our property to bring our Bully Moloss Overflow Project to it’s fullest potential and continue to help as many pups in need as we are capable of helping. We get asked or told more often then I would like that we need to stop taking in those in need and think about ourselves. If only it were that easy. We cannot turn the other cheek and look away if we KNOW there is something we can do. Of course it’s not easy to add another mouth or 7 (as we have done in taking in another pregnant abandoned momma) to feed but something that proves difficult is not a good enough reason to quit or just give up and not extend our hand and help those in need of assistance if there is something we can do. For us that is what makes the world go round. If we all would just do what we could, can you imagine how much better off this place would be?

So yes, yes we are finding it very difficult to achieve this next phase successfully and maintain the level of giving back we are used to since this past year or so. Asking for handouts goes against the very fiber of our being so it has been difficult coming to an effective solution. This is where I do not feel this is so much of a pride issue as I feel we are capable of working for what we need and earn or offer an exchange of goods or services for what we receive. Perhaps it is a pride issue and I am just unaware of it.

The only conclusions we have been able to come to are SALES, Auctions and Fundraisers. So I said all that to perhaps better explain why your support is the most crucial at the moment. There is a substantial amount we still need to raise to break even and get out of this ditch we fell in to get back to a level playing field. We very much appreciate your support and will continue to work on raising these funds for the dogs in need and to get The Sir’s medical bills paid off. If all you can do is share our events and sales we are most grateful.

WOOT WOOT: We are LOCKED n’ LOADED once more. Pun intended!

As predicted we are now self reliant for assembly of the pieces needed for our Locked N’ Loaded collar. After many failed attempts at finding reliable suppliers we bit the bullet (hahah yes another pun, I’m on a roll) and now are assembling our own pieces. You will see from my photos my first attempt was not so great, my second was better but still not up to par with what is needed for our design and VIOLA the 3rd attempt was pretty dang okay for my first time. I am just so gosh darn excited that we are finally now able to not rely on loopy suppliers that left us hanging when we needed more supplies.

So we have not had bully decals out for very long and actually do not even have them listed on our store yet (those listings are coming this weekend) just listed them on our store hours after this blog post. but We have already had a wonderful response and have been shipping decals out daily through phone or email orders since introducing them.

Well for those of you that have received one of our decals up to this point they have received a makeover. Before they were covered with pretty dense transfer top layer that was very difficult to see the design through let alone color. For those of you that have ordered in bulk for your rescue and events sales they did not make for very good display items that way. We are very happy to introduce the new look of our decals. We now have clear transfer top layer which make for a very nice display of decals and immediate recognition of what each decal is in addition to it’s coloring! Woot Woot!

With the exception of a handful of decals left in stock with the old plain white transfer top layer the rest of the decals shipped out from this point on out will have the clear top layer to them.

So what does that mean for the average customer? Not much really other than you get instant gratification when you open your package and there are decals inside because you will be able to see them immediately.

What does that mean for those of you that order to raise funds or for resale and attend events? This means your audience will have a much more visually pleasing experience and you will be able to display them much more attractively compared to our older ones that you could not see and had to tinker with or flip over to read the sticker on the back to find out what color the decal actually is.

Yeah um…so that is it. We thought it was pretty cool how much nicer these display. What a HUGE difference a clear transfer layer makes.
